At a time in American society when there was an important need for refined manners and our own sense of “aristocracy “, Ms. Emily Post gave us ETIQUETTE!
Manners might be an easier term to use, but etiquette is an an accepted form of behavior for all to follow. Each person has a guide to responsible and presentable behavior, such as opening a door for a lady or appropriate topics of conversation during social events.
Who has been to a formal dinner and found themselves bewildered at the number of silverware before them? Which fork is used first? How does one properly introduce themselves? All questions are answered by customs and traditions set throughout history.
Why is etiquette so important? Well, it’s a way of life and its a great way to better oneself. As I’ve stated in an earlier blog, love for oneself and others is a great place to begin.
Don’t we all endeavor to make our world a greater place? If so, who we are and how we are perceived by character is imperative! Someone once told me that the dates on our tombstones aren’t important. It’s the in-between that counts!
How can people begin to understand etiquette if they have yet learned to love? Love is what pushes us forward, driving us to bigger and better lives! Behavior is what gets us there.
